Through questioning beauty and the methods of how it can be attained, MJ Bouchier's work provocatively explores the relationships between a woman's body image and the quest for an idealised female form. It is the curious nature of the subjects targeted within the work, that provokes MJ Bouchier to create hybrids of contemporary and historical ideals.

The influence of layering desired parts together through a collage inspired technique, aka. 'The Dissection for Perfection', enables MJ to create visual perceptions of beauty based upon the identity crisis that surrounds us in today's society.

MJ Bouchier's paintings exude a powerful cocktail of curiosity and confrontation with a Brit pop attitude, bursting with vibrancy.

Inspired by the finesse of Photorealism and the precision and illusion of Trompe L'Oeil, MJ wants to entice the viewer to question whether the image before them is real or completely fabricated through a body modification process. MJ Bouchier's obsession and fascination with a flawless state, physically, metaphorically or literally through satisfaction of the mind, enables her to explore the unknown but often, very much desired.
